Commissioned Art Boards for Menus

Caroline Robe brings a new look to Dinners

Picture"BlasFemme" Caroline Robe
One of our new evening  waiters happens to be a fine artist and has added a new dimension to our Dinner Menu "foils" (actually hardboard).   With the use of handmade and construction material stencils, she has created individual and charming settings for our long, single sheets of food offerings.  (Or perhaps our menus are the foil to her artworks . ...?)

In any case, her name is CAROLINE ROBE and her use of radiator gratings and lace patterns together with bold stencils of wishbones and spoons continues the theme set by brother Gregory in the chicken wire and ductwork lamps that have long adorned the restaurant.   (She claims her work is "gender neutral" and we're inclined to agree!)

We're hoping she'll exhibit work in our Couloir Bleu gallery sometime this Fall as her wood carvings of very recognizable objects--like spoons--have a voluptuousness that would make anyone want to live with them forever.  You should definitely check out her sculptures and paintings in her cleverly named "BlasFemme Design Co." at www.carolinerobe.com.

The Wishbone family of art contributors grows and, of course, you can meet Caroline in her other guise as waiter for our newly re-opened dinners.

Wishbone has new art on its walls: vintage photos from Matthew Nickerson's Lake View book, a visual history of our neighborhood that was published last year. The photos give glimpses of life on the blocks around us during the 20th century, when Wishbone's building was a Kresge store; Lake Viewers spoke German and street cars ran down Lincoln Avenue.

Many will look very familiar to some while others are baffling and worth reading about in Nickerson's book.

The photos are for sale for $45 (contact Nickerson at mnickerson@outlook.com. The books are for sale at our cash register for $21.99 plus tax.  The show will be up through September. . . . so there's time to wander down Memory Lane in the Couloir Bleu.
